Hard Ball

Demetri Martin has been cast in Steven Soderbergh's "Moneyball," says Variety.

Based upon the Michael Lewis book, Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game: the story follows ballplayer-turned-Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane mount his attempt to field a competitive team on a slim payroll. Brad Pitt plays Beane.

Martin will play Paul De Podesta, a Harvard graduate who turned down Wall Street jobs to use his statistical skills to change baseball scouting tactics. His system, known as "Earned Run Value," allowed Beane to evaluate valuable players he could hire at low cost.

Former Oakland A's team members David Justice and Scott Hatteberg will play themselves, while Darryl Strawberry and Lenny Dykstra will be seen on camera.

The mop-top funny guy will also be seen Ang Lee's Taking Woodstock--which begs EW to ask: Does he have what it takes to be a movie star?

Personally I have enjoyed Martin's schtick Time will tell if he can be taken seriously...

Shooting on the drama begins in June.
