No Place Like 'Drome

Plans are in motion to remake director David Cronenberg's quirky thriller "Videodrome," says Variety,

In the 1983 original James Woods played Max Renn, a TV station manager introduced to a pirate broadcast called Videodrome, a program laden with torture.Later he finds that a side-effect of the Videodrome signal is that it maliciously brings about brain tumours in the viewer causing hallucinations which are able to manifest in his physical flesh-- like growing a vagina-like womb in his belly.

The new version will use the idea of nanotechnology and make the film a larger-scale sci-fi action pic.

Cronenberg is not yet involved in the remake. He is currently working on "The Matarese Circle" as a starring vehicle for Tom Cruise and Denzel Washington.

Cronenberg's early films are filled with way out sequences but Videodrome is probably on the extreme end of the spectrum...It will be interesting to see if any of that original stuff will be reworked and included in the remake....

Ehren Kruger is writing rhe screenplay script and will co-produce the movie with Daniel Bobker.
