Mission To Mars

X-O:Wolverine co-stars Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins are set to headline the live-action " John Carter Of Mars" film says The Hollywood Reporter.

Based on author Edgar Rice Burroughs classic sci-fi stories "Carter" centers on an American Civil War veteran who finds himself mysteriously transported to Mars, where his involvement with warring races of the dying planet force him to rediscover his humanity.

Kitsch plays the title character, beating off competition from others including Jon Hamm and Josh Duhamel, while Collins is playing Dejah Thoris, heir to the throne of Mars' Helium kingdom.

As a Kitsch fan from his work on TV'S Friday Night Lights...and disappointed that he only got about 7 minutes of screen time in XO--I'm glad that he will lead the way here...I'm jazzed about the project now more than I ever was before.

Meanwhile, actor Thomas Haden Church told Reel Talk that he's also going to Mars...

"I probably am going to do a huge science fiction drama at Disney called John Carter of Mars in the spring and that's a very dramatic role" says Church..

The movie will be directed by Andrew Stanton, who wrote the script with Mark Andrews.

Filming aims to kick off around the end of the year.
