After the box office numbers were adjusted last week The Hangover turned out to be the #1 movie pushing UP into 2nd place...No surprise update is gonna be needed this week...
The top 2 films stayed the same...
Pamela McClintock of Variety:
Defying convention, Warner Bros.' R-rated comedy "The Hangover" stayed at No. 1 in its second outing at the domestic box office, dipping a mere 26% an estimated $33.4 million from 3,355 theaters for a cume of $105.3 million in its first 10 days.
Disney-Pixar's 3-D toon "Up" likewise continued to dazzle in its third weekend, declining 31% to an estimated $30.5 million from 3,886 runs. Pic's cume is $187.2 million--the second-best domestic gross of any summer film save for Paramount's "Star Trek."
Third-man out was Sony's new entry "Taking of Pelham 1 2 3." Adult-skewing action-drama debuted at No. 2 in grossing a solid-to-strong $25 million from 3,074 theaters. Heading into the weekend, Sony knew "Pelham" had tough competition in "Hangover" and "Up."
It was a rough weekend for Eddie Murphy, whose family pic "Imagine That" came in below expectations in grossing $5.7 million from 3,008 runs. The Paramount pic placed No. 6.
"Imagine" is Murphy's first movie since last summer's "Meet Dave," which also misfired in opening to $5.4 million and cuming $11.8 million....
Adam Markovitz of EW:
Moviegoers are still feeling The Hangover in the comedy's second weekend, making the boys-night-out romp the first movie of the summer to hold the top spot for two weeks in a row...
Most shocking to me though about the chart is that Land of the Lost somehow managed to stay in the top 5...
