D.J. Caruso had great success with both Disturbia and Eagle Eye in large part due to the casting of Shia Labeouf in the lead....
When the director said that he wanted to helm an adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan's graphic novel Y: The Last Man, with LaBeouf starring as the only survivor of a plague that wiped out everyone with a Y chromosome-most folks thought done deal...
Not so much...
LaBeouf told Wizard Magazone in an interview (via Coming Soon) that he's not planning to play the lead role of Yorick, since the character is too similar to one his orher characters...
"You take Sam and you put a monkey on his shoulder. I don't know if it's that big a differential. It seems like he's the ordinary guy in an extraordinary situation again." He continued, "I'm not willing to make that movie currently, and may be too old to play the role by the time it does come around."
Uh, dude, I get that you want to change things up a bit, but really your other roles to this point have been very similar to your Transformers character Sam Witwicky-Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, anyone? And you are attached to do 2 big dramas anyway...Why gripe now?
With Caruso tagged to team up with Masi Oka, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci on the family pic Defenders Y as film nay be dead as a movie just the same...
