"The O.C." and Chuck creator Josh Schwartz will make make his feature film directorial debut on "Bright Lights, Big City" says Variety.
Schwartz will also produce and adapt the script based upon Jay McInerney's 1984 book about a disillusioned magazine writer who numbs the pain of a failed marriage and writer's block with drugs, alcohol and nightly carousing.
Schwartz is undecided if to keep the adaptation set in the 80's or move it up to contemporary times..
The film was previously adapted on film in 1988 starring Michael J. Fox Kiefer Sutherland, Phoebe Cates and Dianne Wiest.
Schwartz would be wise to maybe update the story to contemporary times--otherwise what's the point of remaking the earlier flick?
