Leaks Are Cool?

Fox execs must be breathing a healthy sigh of cautious relief over the online leak of the "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" workprint.

Despite all of the chatter and rightful outrage...

EW says that early tracking figures show a high "wanna see" rating for the film which is said to be the No. 1 choice for young men and guys aged 31 and older. They also indicate the film is in for a stellar opening weekend no matter what.

The report suggests that the leak might actually turn out to be a a winner for the studio and filmmakers generating free publicity--the film has been downloaded at least 100,000 times since the initial leak

Torrent Freak has the figure closer to a million downloads in the first few days.

Folks have begun guessing how much revenue the leak will either cost or benefit the studio -Of course there's no way to no for sure on that front, the studio can claim any "Loss Revenue" number it chooses....Especially if it doesn't do well...

Fox and the Feds are investigating the leak...

I find this fascinating--I am not a conspiracy kind of guy-- reshoots, explanations, and test screening....As of today the film's not yet been rated yet. And leaks generate buzz...it's most direct competition Star Trek did fall off the radar for a bit with the leak

Did someone want to gage reaction and ramp up buzz?
